UZBEK SILK HANDMADE EMBROIDERY – “IKAT-ATLAS” KERCHIEF / BAG

From monumental Suzanis, which organically joined in architectural ensemble of interior to the small things - bags for tea, salt and even holders for smoky cauldrons and shoes insoles - everything were lovingly embroidered and became neat, brought joy to person. Since ancient times Uzbek handmade articles were popular by their skilled work and quality of embroidery. The embroidery was a single accessible for woman kind of visual arts expressing her mood and feelings and hereof her great emotional saturation.

This is silk handmade embroidered kerchief/bag in Uzbek style. The age of the item is the second part of the 20th century. Such kerchiefs/bags were used for wrapping some household items instead of bags. They usually were not densely embroidered, most embroidery being made mainly on the borders. The foundation of embroidery is silky and lustrous “Ikat-Atlas” fabric with colourful traditional blurred stripes design. The hand embroidered border is filled with beautiful floral motifs. This gorgeous item can be used as a wall decoration in oriental style.

Condition: excellent, except some tiny spots.
