I fish in an area which is acknowledge world wide as one of the most challenging and rewarding fisheries. This is Fiordland, NZ. I target trophy trout in gin clear water which holds spooky trout. I developed the Rd Tag Pheasant Tail pattern over a number of years and it is now my 'go to' pattern. I tie it off the end of a weighted nymph which is generally a tungsten bead. The objective is to get to where the trout are fast, giving a longer drag free drift. Generally the fish will hit the 'Red Tag' nymph. It is deadly!

This collection should form the basis of your seasons requirements. Far too many people fish a multitude of patterns. It is better to change size rather than pattern. I acknowledge that there is particular patterns that work better on local waters however these two patterns are the basis of a good fly box.

All hooks are Kamasan - Double Bronsed, Chemically Sharpened and High Tensile.
