This specimen was collected at the Lehigh-Portland Cement Quarry in 1978 by one of Maryland's great all-time field collectors, the late George Brewer and is from the only known occurence of Wulfenite from Maryland. Legend is that a single rock bearing wulfenite crystals was dislodged, broken apart, and that this is one of the pieces. Specimen bears three perfectly formed wulfenite crystals that are clearly visible to the naked eye. The longest measures about 1.5 mm. long. Most important is that all of these crystals are PERFECT!! The specimen itself measures 5 cm x 3 cm x 2.4 cm. The close-up picture shot through a microscope at 10x shows a micro crystal of cerussite, which is also extremely rare in Maryland. |
