This unique bombilla is not artisan made but we felt it embodies the spirit of artisan work. This wonderful mate and bombilla are examples of Argentine manufacturing excellence.

In our travels through South America we have met and come to know the artisan whose work is being showcased in this auction. We support the artisans and their efforts to provide a better quality of life for their families.

THIS IS THE NATIONAL DRINK OF ARGENTINA

This Mate Gourd was made from the gourd of the Lagenaria vulgaris plant. It is used to drink a tea-like beverage called mate.

This handmade mate gourd is approximately 3.50" tall and holds 7-8 fluid ounces of liquid. It is golden Brown in color and has an aluminum collar and footing. Mates vary slightly in size.

This unique bombilla is nickel plated with gold accents.
It measures 7.25 inches long and is equipped with a heat sink that keeps the heat away from the drinkers lips. It is very easy to clean, just remove the threaded bulb and rinse with warm and mild detergent.

Cruz de Malta is a traditional Yerba Mate with stems. Manufactured by Empresa Mate Larangeira Mendez since 1874 in Buenos Aires Argentina.

Empresa Mate Larangeira Mendez takes great care in processing and packaging yerba mate Cruz de Malta. To assure the best quality from the harvest to the final product it employs time proven traditional processes.

This yerba mate is 100% naturally processed. No chemicals or preservatives are added. The Yerba is naturally dried and aged to obtain the maturity that is required to achieve a traditional scent and flavor.

This yerba mate is packaged in 100% recycled paper.

Yerba Mate is an herb that is a traditional tea infusion used by the natives of South America. This tea-like beverage is consumed mainly in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and southern Brazil. It is brewed from the dried leaves and stems of the Yerba Mate tree (Ilex paraguarensis).

HOW TO CURE A MATE GOURD

Fill your new mate gourd 3/4 of the way full with fresh Yerba Mate. Fill the mate gourd with hot (Not Boiling) water. Let the hot water absorb for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, the water level will have gone down due to absorption. Add hot water to fill the mate gourd again. Let the gourd sit for 24 Hours. After 24 Hrs. remove the Yerba Mate and gently scrape the inside of the mate gourd with a small spoon to remove loose debris. (Be careful not to damage the thick membrane of the gourd)Wash the inside of the mate gourd with hot water (do not use soap!).
Repeat steps 1 through 7 one more time and you are ready to use your mate.
