Unique Mexican Oaxaca Black Clay Pot with Handle

This Stunning Mexican Oaxaca Black Silvery Shiny Round Pot measures 2 1/2" tall.  This pot is a bit different since it has a little handle on one side.  In excellent condition, the original tag and pricing is still on the bottom. 

Listed as an Olla Calada Mini, with the pricing in US Dollars at $69.00.  It has a pattern of open see through cut-outs. 

I bought a few of these types of pottery several years ago from a dealer who told me he had bought them in Mexico several years prior.  At the time I did not have any experience with Mexican Pottery and did not realize that the items I bought were worth so much more than I paid and had a definite history and method of creating them. 

So today I am listing the pots I bought and hope that the buyer will appreciate them as much as I do now. 

This type of Pottery is created from Clay that is made dark by placing the formed item into a Kiln which is void of oxygen and fired for a very long time at a low temperature.  The smoke that is generated invades the clay and gives it the black color.  When the pot is removed and cooled from the Kiln it is smoothed many times and then polished.  The finished product is unique and has its own persona.  This process was originated in a Village near Oaxaca Mexico and most of the pieces we see today originate from that same region.
