This is a TRUE TAMARIND and not the Wild Tamarind (lysiloma).
 
Tamarinds can grow to 90 feet in the wild and have a large umbrella shaped crown with fine, fern like compound leaves. 
 
 New foliage emerges bright reddish-orange and changes to light green.
 The bark is deeply furrowed. Sometimes in early summer and in the fall, red buds develop which open to pale yellow three-petaled flowers that are sometimes striped with red.  These blooms are small and resemble orchid blooms.  The blooms are followed by cinnamon colored scalloped pods that are edible and used in beverages, sauces, candies and other items.
 
She's a big girl:  32" tall from the soil line (36" incl. pot)

Very easy tree to care for.
 Tamarinds require lots of bright sunlight.  I have had good response with this particular tree indoors in a brightly lit location, lately it has been currently enjoying outdoor Florida (still hot) weather 24/7. 
Tamarinds require protection from temps dipping below 45 F. 
Tamarinds require regular waterings for maximum potential and are not drought tolerant. 
Tamarinds need acid fertilizer weekly during the growing season and once a month during the winter.  In early spring add super phosphate to encourage blooms. 
Tamarinds are slow growers but top foliage will grow quickly pulling all the trees energy upwards and away from bottom branches.  Keep the top in check so the bottom branches will not suffer.   The good thing is that Tamarinds can take a severe pruning to both branches and roots if done in the spring or early summer.   Tamarinds resprout quickly from the trunk and branches.  This makes them a great bonsai subject.
Wiring can be done on young branches. 
Leaves can be reduced by defoliation several times during the growing season, another reason they make great bonsai subjects. 
Deep furrowed bark gives impression of age.
Can be repotted next spring after night temps stay above mid-60's F.
Is a good candidate for someone with more experience to air-layer, & trunk chop ! = 2 trees !!!!
