Antique Victorian Silver Pinched Glass Decanter
This decanter was made circa 1893 by John Grinsell & Sons (British silversmith). It is marked with JG&S along with some symbols representing the period and place of origin. The markings are hard to see, they are stamped into the silver on the neck.
The pontil is slightly concave. There is a crystal glass stopper. The stopper has a number 83 engraved in it and the inside neck of the decanter has the same number engraved there.
This decanter has a very unusual pinched shape. It stands just under 12" tall (with stopper) and 4 1/4" wide.
The sterling silver neck is tarnished and has not been cleaned in some time.
The overall condition is very good. This decanter is rare and beautiful. A very similar peice by the same maker is currently being sold in the UK for $650.00.
