Fabulous Hand-Detailed Vintage Early 1960s
Black Silk Dramatic HUGE Bow Hourglass Cocktail Dress S



Measurements: 36-37 inches bust, 29 waist, 37 hips, 15.5 shoulder to shoulder, 23 sleeves, 41.5 mid shoulder to hem.


Fabulous and dramatic early 1960s cocktail dress that is exceptionally well made. In fact, when I first laid eyes on it, and my hands touched it, I thought it was a Luis Estevez. Alas, the construction is different than Estevez's, even if the design looks like his, and there are no labels in it.

A feminine take on a tuxedo, with it's hourglass shape and dramatic big black silk satin bow and turnback cuffs on black crepe that I believe to be silk as well. (Haven't done a burn test, but with silk satin trim and silk crepe lining, plus the workmanship, I can't imagine it isn't.) The cut is a closely fitting sheath, tailored to perfection with horizontal bust darts and long vertical darts front and back. The long back nylon zipper was set in by hand on the outer side, the hem stitched by hand, and the armhole seams are bound. I love the attention to detail. Even the bow on the bodice has a tiny fabric covered button towards the bottom of the center, and at the nape of the neck a very small and delicate satin bow hides the hook and eye. An unusual and unusually elegantly made piece from the early 1960s.

Condition: Excellent, no flaws.
