Utah Copper Mine Claim - Copper Globe Mines
Historical Mines Deep in the San Rafael Swell.
Up for bid, good luck finding another like this. Copper Globe is actually its own little district. This is the second of three 20 acre claims that encompass the entire area. Buy one and have some neighbors, buy them all and its all yours. Copper Globe has a unique and interesting history. There are numerous cabins and relics in the area. And some locals have gone through some work to try and preserve it. Whatever you do on this site you will not be disappointed. This site was fist worked in the early 1900s (1904?) and sporadically throughout.
This site has been featured in Desert Magazine, June, 1965 when a 3 page article told the history and tales of the site and its potential. (let me know if you would like a pdf of the magazine and I can email it to you.) The article tells about the history and the people that have worked in the area. Its very interesting and a good read to understand the site.
This entire area is overshadowed by "The Globe", a large rock formation with copper shot throughout, this claim resides mostly on the Western side of the "Globe". This claim is bordered by "the Crack" a narrow, high passage of rock that connects one side of the globe with the other. There are more cabins on this side and only one main shaft, but what a shaft!! 1100 feet down and no record of where it goes or what is in there. Only record for the 1100 ft. comes from the dept of Oil, Gas and Mining. Who knows where it goes, drifts or whatever could be inside. Its got a chain link fence around it to keep the unwary from falling in. There are two well built cabins. 1 looks like it was just lived in, there are still cans of food on the shelves, some old shirts and a jacket. With a broom and a little cleaning its totally livable. Also, it seems that visitors that find relics in the area, have collected all these relics on the outside of this cabin. The other cabin has been befriended by mice. There are a lot of mouse turds, but a broom and some ambition. There is an old outhouse that has mostly fallen but the seat is still there too. There is a lot on the globe walls here. An old cistern was built in but is in need of repair. there are old writings all over the walls. Also, some old "miner's stairs" cut into the rock to traverse the crack onto the other side. Its a beautiful site.
There are a lot of old mining relics that could be uncovered in this claim. Also, the copper is there, and where theres copper, the four metals usually follow. Gold, silver and Platinum all seem to run together. Who knows what could be uncovered with modern tools of today.
The history on this site is extensive. Since approximately 1904 the site has been worked and expanded, and worked and expanded until right around the mid 1950s when Kennecott began to dominate the copper market. Since then it has been poked and occasionally prodded. Some have camped outside the general area (See Utah 4Wheel Adventures - Copper Globe), but it seems that everyone has taken effort to keep the area nice.
As to other items in the area, this is one of the rare sites that has existing buildings. Current mining law says that you cannot build permenant structures on mining claims, however, you can improve existing buildings. This site has 2 good sized cabins, with a little work, you could have some nice buildings up on your claim, and possibly a rock house!! Highly recommended for working or bringing family and friends for a retreat from the world.
There is limited water in the area in the way of springs and river run off but nothing on the claims. We would recommend that you pack your own water in.
Heavy metals, such as Gold and Silver are on a huge increase. Copper has always been an overlooked resource, Kennecott makes billions off of copper but you dont see copper bars, oh wait, now a days you do (do a search). Gold mines in the 60s were abandoned when gold dropped below $300 per ounce. Silver was abandoned when it dipped into the single digits. Silver is now $17 per ounce and Gold is $1100.
Copper, while under appreciated has snuck up from $2 per ounce last year to a hair over $3 per ounce today. Hard rock mining has made many millionaires, but you dont make anything without rights to the land. This claim gives you full control of all mineral rights.
This site is green, but dry. It is smack in the middle of the San Rafael Swell. Solitude is the fare of the day. A rocky little un-named road cuts off of I-70 and wanders a slow and rocky decent to the site. Due to its desert location, this area rarely sees snow or rain. Site is accessible year round. We have never had any trouble accessing the site year round. The entire area can be accessed with relative ease as most of the roads are in very good working order. High clearance 4wd is recommended. There are a few technical spots that you may be able to navigate down but navigating up may have you cursing for 4wd. Also, with flash floods and other natural occurance, roads can become impassible very quickly, we always recommend high clearance 4 wheel drive, better safe than sorry.
This auction is for 1 (one) lode claim. Total Average is 20. This is a REMOTE SITE. If you break down or have an emergency out here you will have to hike about 35 miles to reach the pavement and then hope someone picks you up. This is an ideal site for either production work, or a great little get-away spot to bring the family and friends to explore Utah rich mining history. Its location makes it easy to secure and its remoteness keeps trespassers away.
This is a lode claim, otherwise known as a "hard rock" claim.
A quick vocabulary lesson on mines and this auction:
- Adit - A horizontal access point to a mine.
- Shaft - A vertical access point into a mine.
- Winze - A vertical shaft, usually at an adit opening. Allows access to upper or lower levels
- Drift - An adit or inclined shaft that cuts off from the main adit or shaft.
Maintenance on this site is $140.00, per claim, annually.

You will need high clearance 4wd to access the site. The main access road is wide and flat, however the turnoff to the mine is a few drop offs, rocky points and sand. There is ample parking in the area. It is still very remote. If you break down, or something happens, you are going to have to make the hike out toI-70 or hope for someone to come by.
There is gas, and services are available in Green River or Hanksville. Both about 45 miles from the site.
NOTE: A Mining claim is a tangible asset, it shows proof of all interests in minerals in the area. You likely dont have ownership of the mineral rights on your own land.
The site is approximately 5 hours from Salt Lake City Intl Airport. Located in Emery County, Access is directly from I-70 then 20 some odd miles of dirt and off roading till you arrive at the site.
Mine Claims are quickly moving to be a thing of the past, but as the past has shown, existing claims get precedence and are grandfathered in... even in WSAs. Mining claims are being cracked down on under President Obama and there was just more land signed into wilderness. This claim is the only way to hold title to these mines. Mine Closures are rampant in Utah and soon there will not be any existing mines to claim, only dirt, where you have to post million dollar bonds to plant a shovel. GRE, Inc. is the ONLY claimant to hold off closures from the BLM. We have set a precedent so rest assured that once you have this, no one is going to take it away.
This auction is for all interest in this claim. This claim cover the entire site, 1500ft by 600ft., just over 20 acres. Full rights to all lodes and minerals gems and whatever else you may find. The winner of this auction will recieve a quit claim deed to the site and all associated documentation showing full ownership of the claim. (Note, if you need to finance the site, you can still work on it, but the quit claim deed will not be processed until the final payments on the site have been made).

This is not a patented site, nor is there any guarantee of ore content or values. A mining claim is not ownership of the land. It is full control of locatable minerals. The BLM defines located minerals as:

The General Mining Law of 1872, as amended, opened the public lands of the United States to mineral acquisition by the location and maintenance of mining claims. Mineral deposits subject to acquisition in this manner are generally referred to as “locatable minerals.”
A lode claim is defined as:
"Jefferson-Montana Copper Mines Co., 41 L.D. 321(1912), established the full test for a lode claim:
“To constitute a valid discovery upon a lode claim, three elements are necessary: 1. There must be a vein or lode of quartz or other rock-in-place, 2. The quartz or other rock-in-place must carry gold or some other valuable mineral deposit, 3. The two preceding elements, when taken together, must be such that as to warrant a prudent man in the expenditure of his time and money in the effort to develop a valuable mine.”
Additionally,
Federal statute does not describe what constitutes a valuable mineral deposit, therefore the government has adopted the “prudent man rule.” This rule determines value based on whether or not a person will consider investing time and money to develop a potentially viable mineral deposit. This rule was first stated by the DOI in 1894, in the adjudication of Castle v. Womble, 19 L.D. 455 (1894), the holding of which states:
“…where minerals have been found and the evidence is of such a character that a person of ordinary prudence would be justified in the further expenditure of his labor and means, with a reasonable prospect of success in developing a valuable mine, the requirements of the statute have been met.”
