Utah Uranium Mine Claim - Dirty Devil Mines - WEST END

Historical Dirty Devil Mines on Tomsich Butte

This claim is the western side of the Dirty Devil claims. The eastern side can be found in our other auctions. The two claims butt right up against eachother and there is no missed space. As is the case, most of the description is the same as the East side of the Dirty Devil claims. The images are different as this side encompasses different mines and adits. The two claims have no intersecting tunnels and can be held seperately with no issues, or bid for both to own the entire southern face of the butte.

The Dirty Devil mines, up on Tomsich Butte, deep in the San Rafael Swell. The San Rafael Swell area is well known for rich Uranium mines. In fact, by some accounts this area has produced more uranium than all other uranium mines in the US combined.  We have been lucky enough to aquire a few of these old sites recently, and now that they are documented, we are offering them up for sale. This claim is directly adjacent to another one of our claims, so if you want to grab up the whole south side of the butte, bid on both.

There is a lot to see out here. The mines themselves are enormous. There was major production here that dropped off when the call for Uranium did. Now a days, Uranium is back in demand and Uranium claims are as well. It sits on the south facing slope of Tomsich butte and covers the western end of the butte. There is ample parking for friends, miners or family members. This area is a favorite with ATVers however, as the claim owner you will have say of who goes into your mines. You will wind your way up to the front of the adits where you have a spectacular view of the valley below, and of other adits within your claim. There is also an structure outside, an old powder house with one hell of a thick door. Its in relatively good shape and wouldnt require much to get back up to snuff.

There is a lot ot see at this site, from a mining and a historical perspective. Structurally there is still a lot left. There is a structure outside, an old powder house with one hell of a thick door. Its in relatively good shape and wouldnt require much to get back up to snuff. There are a few other building remnants at the base of the road. Closer to the mines are walls and shoring, mostly built with rail wood. Inside the mines is a real treasure trove. There are numerous areas that are relatively unexplored. TheOn this side we saw dynamite boxes and tobacco cans all over. From the mining perspective, there are many walls that are cut ready for blasting. Also, there are huge veins or pockets of petrified trees and shrubs and such. It appears that the "uranium rich areas" have been tagged throughout the mines, just waiting for the boom to come along. Uranium is an interesting mineral, and while radio-active, it doesnt cause you to randomly glow. There are still massive reserves in this site as evidenced by the petrified wood and the folds of fossilized vegetation in the walls of the mine.

There is a good bit of history on this site. Uranium Mines at Tomsich Butte were started by W.J. Hanret and John Tomsich in 1951. This was one of the most active Uranium mining areas in the world. If you are looking to start cashing in on the Uranium boom, this is a good place to start. There are many who just sit on these sites as investments and then sell them out at great profit to larger corporations such as Unico. Others will work these sites to establish a history of processing and really cash in selling the ores.

This site is deep in the San Rafael Swell on the western edge of the Swell loop. The drive to the site is stunning, and then a short side road takes you off to Tomsich Butte, with the Hondu Arch in the back ground and many other prospects, its endless with possiblities of exploration.

Uranium is on a steady upswing. Since 2001 the pricing has increase 900% and is still moving upward. (http://www.goldworld.com/articles/uranium-prices-production/114)

This site contains multiple adits. There are 4 that are readily accessible and visible. There may be more that we have not seen. These adits are HUGE... Most average 6-7 feet in height and are 8-10 feet wide. They do narrow out as they go back, but these are extensive sites. I would estimate that there are well over 3/4 mile of tunnels on this claim. There are many examples of fossilized wood and fauna that are found as you wander the massive tunnels as well as tons of relics and old machinery. We found an old billfold inside an old hat stuffed up in a crook in the rock inside the mine during our exploration of this area.

This site  is especially beautiful with Hondu arch overlooking the entire region. There steep buttes and breathtaking views. There is no shortage of solitude out here. Water is somewhat available in a small seasonal creek just to the west of the claims. However, to be safe, you should plan to pack your own in. Due to location, this area rarely sees snow or rain. Site is accessible year round. We have never had any trouble accessing the site year round. The entire area can be accessed with ease as most of the roads are maintained due to the climate remain in very good working order. High clearance 2wd would be recommended, however, with flash floods and other natural occurances, roads can become impassible very quickly.

This auction is for 1 (one) lode claim.  Total Acerage is 20. This is a VERY REMOTE SITE. If you break down or have an emergency out here you will have to hike about 25 miles to reach the highway and then hope someone picks you up. This is an ideal site for either production work, or a great little get-away spot to bring the family and friends to explore Utahs rich mining history. Its location makes it easy to secure and its remoteness keeps trespassers away.

This is  a placer claim, or surface rights claim.

A quick vocabulary lesson on mines and this auction:

  • Adit - A horizontal access point to a mine.
  • Shaft - A vertical access point into a mine.
  • Winze - A vertical shaft, usually at an adit opening. Allows access to upper or lower levels
  • Drift - An adit or inclined shaft that cuts off from the main adit or shaft.

Maintenance on this site is $140.00, per claim, annually.

Explanation of the pics:

  • Pic #1: One of the larger adits in the claim
  • Pic #2: Inside the adit
  • Pic #3: Coming back through another adit.
  • Pic #4:  Blasting shack outside
  • Pic #5: Inside the blasting shack
  • Pic #6: Inside another adit entry
  • Pic #7: Roads up and around the claim.
  • Pic #8: More adits and an old ore chute remnant.
  • Pic #9: Different view with truck for scale
  • Pic #10: The old truck near the road, tells you that your getting close.
  • Pic #11: View across the valley from the claim site
  • Pic #12: Hondu arch overlooking the claim.

Services and Access:

You will need high clearance 2wd to access the site, but as usual, 4wd is recommended, just in case. The main access road is wide and flat, and the road to the mine is relatively flat as well. There is ample parking and camping in the area. It is still very remote. If you break down, or something happens, you are going to have to make the hike up to i-70 or hope for someone to come by.

There is gas, and services are available in Green River, about 46 miles from the site.

NOTE: A Mining claim is a tangible asset, it shows proof of all interests in minerals in the area.  You likely dont have ownership of the mineral rights on your own land.

The site is approximately 6 hours from Salt Lake City Intl Airport. Located in Emery County, Just off of the San Rafael Swell historic Mining loop. Access either from the Temple Mountain Area, or strait off I-70. Either way you are going to spend an hour or so on dirt roads before you get to the site.

Mine Claims are quickly moving to be a thing of the past, but as the past has shown, existing claims get precedence and are grandfathered in... even in WSAs. Mining claims are being cracked down on under President Obama and there was just more land signed into wilderness. This claim is the only way to hold title to these mines. Mine Closures are rampant in Utah and soon there will not be any existing mines to claim, only dirt, where you have to post million dollar bonds to plant a shovel. GRE, Inc. is the ONLY claimant to hold off closures from the BLM. We have set a precedent so rest assured that once you have this, no one is going to take it away.

This auction is for all interest in this claim. This claim cover the entire site, 1500ft by 600ft., just over 20 acres. Full rights to all lodes and minerals gems and whatever else you may find. The winner of this auction will recieve a quit claim deed to the site and all associated documentation showing full ownership of the claim. (Note, if you need to finance the site, you can still work on it, but the quit claim deed will not be processed until the final payments on the site have been made).

YOU ARE BIDDING FOR FULL OWNERSHIP, NOT JUST A DOWN PAYMENT. AUCTION END PRICE IS THE FINAL PRICE FOR THE SITE!!

This is not a patented site, nor is there any guarantee of ore content or values. This is an UNPATENTED claim, and requires a yearly maintenance fee of $140 per year, per claim, (or submit a waiver to avoid paying fees) to retain ownership. The maintenance fees for the site will be paid and taken care of in full for this year. No monies will be due to the BLM until September 1st of 2010.

For more information on mining claims, www.adoptamine.org ,information on the legalities of mining claims and where they can be found and their history.

In addition to the final bid price, there is a $299.00 documentation processing fee that is required of the winning bidder. This fee covers all of the filing of paperwork in the proper counties and state and with the BLM . The winning bidder will recieve a Quit Claim deed for the claim. With no monies due until September 1st, 2010. There is no reserve set for this claim.

LEGAL NOTES:(To be in compliance with EBay rules and regulations please review the following notes)

  • This auction is not for any Speleothems, Stalactites or Stalagmites. This auction is not for any cave formations of any sort.
  • This auction is not for ownership of a cave or any sort of cave related items. Its is for control of locatable minerals and the ability to secure the land on which your minerals are located.

  • This Auction does not constitute any sale of stocks or other security interests that represent a current investment ownership interest in an entity. Nor does this auction represent any effort by individuals to raise money or find investors for Businesses.

A mining claim is not ownership of the land. It is full control of locatable minerals. The BLM defines located minerals as:

The General Mining Law of 1872, as amended, opened the public lands of the United States to mineral acquisition by the location and maintenance of mining claims. Mineral deposits subject to acquisition in this manner are generally referred to as “locatable minerals.”

A lode claim is defined as:

"Jefferson-Montana Copper Mines Co., 41 L.D. 321(1912), established the full test for a lode claim:

“To constitute a valid discovery upon a lode claim, three elements are necessary: 1. There must be a vein or lode of quartz or other rock-in-place, 2. The quartz or other rock-in-place must carry gold or some other valuable mineral deposit, 3. The two preceding elements, when taken together, must be such that as to warrant a prudent man in the expenditure of his time and money in the effort to develop a valuable mine.”

Additionally,

Federal statute does not describe what constitutes a valuable mineral deposit, therefore the government has adopted the “prudent man rule.” This rule determines value based on whether or not a person will consider investing time and money to develop a potentially viable mineral deposit. This rule was first stated by the DOI in 1894, in the adjudication of Castle v. Womble, 19 L.D. 455 (1894), the holding of which states:

“…where minerals have been found and the evidence is of such a character that a person of ordinary prudence would be justified in the further expenditure of his labor and means, with a reasonable prospect of success in developing a valuable mine, the requirements of the statute have been met.”

Q: how much would you need for all 3 adjoining claims? robert

Q: Sorry, just saw the picture and fine print on the fact that it isn't ownership of land. How long do you retain rights to the minerals? Who owns the land? Is it possible to buy the land? Is it okay to live on it?
A: You hold the rights as long as you want. you just need to pay annual assessment fees of $140.. BLM own the land and its near impossible to get them to sell anything. You can live on the claim if you file a notice of occupancy... Continue reading

Q: Would it be possible to build a house out here? thank you.
A: You cannot build new permenant structures on any claims. However, you can build and improve upon existing structures. So if you modified and repaired the cabin/blasting shack, you could have a nice little place to live.
