This is a beautiful example of a private purchase French General Officer's Sword which dates from the late 19th Century. It is mounted with a straight blade which measures 34 inches in length. The blade remains in nice condition with only some surface scratches and is well marked by the maker "Coulaux Klingenthal" as well as wears the fading marking of the retailer "MANCHON??? R. RICHELIEU.121.PARIS" just next to the guard. The intricately detailed guard continues to wear most of the original bright gold finish and frames a lovely hilt that has survived in very healthy condition that now reflects a beautiful aged mellowing. In addition to two silver stars, the hilt is also adorned with a raised silver initial upon the pommel face which all nicely accentuates the bright gild. The metal scabbard shows wear with scuffing and dings, nevertheless remains in good serviceable condition. Overall measuring 40 inches in length. (please note other items shown as props are not included in this auction)
