This is a very nice example of a Japanese Naval Officer's Kai Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a beautiful blade that wears a cutting edge of 24 1/4 inches in length. The blade has survived in superb condition with only some minor surface scratches and wears a straight temper line that extends to the tip on both sides. The tang is signed on one side which translates to "Tenshozan Fujiwara Akimitsu motte (?)shugo sakukore" and is dated on the other side "showa juyone shigatsu kichijitsu" which translates to "1939 April lucky day". The hilt and all the fittings remain in excellent condition as well and one of the menuki is adorned with a family mon (family crest). The scabbard wears a beautiful polished sharkskin covering which remains very nice in condition and is also mounted with pretty detailed fittings. Overall measuring 37 inches in length. (please note other items shown as props are not included in this auction)
