I have never seen this book before and it’s pretty cool.
There’s no copyright in the book but judging from the graphics and hair styles it looks to be from the 1930’s.
Growing up in the Chicagoland area I am obviously familiar with the Jewel Tea Company which was the old name for the current Jewel grocery stores. Apparently, according to the book; Mary Dunbar was the Director of the Jewel Homemaker’s institute.
I guess these are supposed to be her favorite recipes although it really is more of a pitch using many Jewel products. They are pretty generic though like rice and pepper so I’m sure that wouldn’t be an issue if you wanted to try the recipes.
There are recipes that run the range of appetizers to desserts.
Someone must have though these recipes were pretty good because the book has definitely been used. There are kitchen marks and some turned down pages. It’s not mint at all but still a neat old book and would be fun to look through.
The covers have a basketweave look to them which is cool too.
It is soft covered and has 80 pages.
Please bear in mind that the books I find have all been pre-owned and I have no idea where they came from. Some of my best selling books have obviously come from some Grandma’s basement and smell musty or what have you. If you are sensitive to these types of smells please remember vintage books are not new!
