On May-04-08 at 14:35:20 PDT, seller added the following information:
When Ovaltine took over sponsorship of the Captain Midnight radio adventure serial, they introduced a ''decoder badge,'' the Code-O-Graph, that served two functions. One of them showed that the listener was a member of Captain Midnight's Secret Squadron. However, shortly after the manufacture of the 1942 Code-O-Graph model, thne United States was attacked at Pearl Harbor, plummeting the country into World War II. As soon as the country was on a war footing, certain manufacturing materials were assigned priorities, and among the most critical materials were copper, and the copper-based alloy, brass. Since the majority of radio premiums were made of brass, the war precluded the manufacture of many of these, including Code-O-Graphs. To show renewed membership in the Secret Squadron, a patch of the Squadron symbol was made available as a shoulder patch. This was offered in 1943 and 1944.
