VINTAGE THAYER PRAM BABY CARRIAGE Triple Duty Folding Coach Manufactured by Thayer Co., Gardner, Massachusetts, "The greatest name in baby carriages".
I was born in 1946 and was wheeled around in this luxurious baby carriage with original wood siding. This Deluxe model carriage is upholstered in blue canvas with gleaming aluminum chassis. It features a convertible handle, removable bonnet and roomy 2- way adjustable foot guard. The deeply scooped foot guard measures approx. 12" wide x 7" deep. The whole unit folds down to fit into a car trunk. The construction is sturdy and solid, with all four original 12" diameter white wall tires and matching chrome fenders. Measures approx. 41" long x 22" wide x 35" high. The following is a quote from the ad in the last photo: "Lovely indeed is the Thayer Folding Coach Triple Duty model which serves as an auto carrier too. It's multiple uses make it the ideal model for small houses and apartments and of course it's built to the famous safety standards of Thayer."
A number of years ago, I had this carriage lovingly restored to it's original beauty by a qualified professional. All the upholstered pieces were redone in a matching soldier blue. The chassis was resilvered and the original fenders were rechromed. The foot guard and all painted parts were repainted in the original soldier blue which matched the upholstered pieces. The wooden sides were left untouched, as they were, and still are in beautiful original condition. All mechanisms are working nicely and as you can see from the pictures, this carriage is a gem from the 40's. Since restoration, the carriage has been carefully stored indoors in a living room away from direct sunlight.
I find it hard to part with this sentimental piece of childhood, but no longer have the space to keep it on display. I'm hoping that some private person or collector will appreciate this carriage, a beautiful example of life with baby just after World War II.
