VINTAGE 1950'S YONEZAWA DIAMOND RACER TIN TOY CAR JAPAN

Vintage LARGE 1950’s tin Diamond Racer BATTERY OPERATED racing car made in Japan by Yonezawa. The car measures exactly 15 INCHES from nose to tail and features a full litho tin-plate driver torso and head. Unsure of the operations of this toy but when two D batteries were inserted the car lit up with multicolor lights over the engine, and flashes when the car is in motion to simulate an engine piston action. The car also has lights on each side and as the “headlight.” The rear axle has a geared “motor” as there is a friction motor sound to the car coming from the back axle. All of the lights are operating properly, but unsure if there is any axle drive or action. The terminals have some corrosion where a bad battery was and there is some rust on the underside of the car. The motion might work if the battery compartment and terminals are cleaned. The paint appears to be original and has some color variations that appear as a factory touch-up but the litho graphics appear very bright and vivid. I’m told the number 17 may have some significance. There is some wear to the tires. The tin body and metal parts appear to be dent and ding free. The car is marked “Made in Japan” near the tail along with the “Y” logo for Yonezawa. Nice example of a vintage tin Japanese racer. Email Qs. Thanks.
