GORGEOUS PRESSED AMBER GLASS PEDESTAL APOTHECARY JAR / DRUG STORE / SODA FOUNTAIN / COVERED CANDY DISH / COMPOTE with LID COVER. A tall, beautiful piece of amber glass done in the Dakota style! I just love the size and color of this jar!
This luscious piece of glass measures a LOFTY 13" tall to the tip of the finial and stands steadily on a wide 4" diameter foot. The mouth of the jar measures 3" diameter and her pot belly bulges to approximately 6" diameter. She is a heavy one, weighing in at over 3-1/2 lb. before packing! A large and heavy piece of glass...a real attention getter for your Fall decor and Autumn holidays!
I don't know the glassmaker or exact age ...but I think it may be a Tiffin piece. My best guess at her age is 30-40 years old ... mid century. We took an interest in these jars as my husband's grandfather was the Dean of Pharmacy at the University of Oklahoma from 1919-1949, and renowned as the longest tenured Dean at the U of Oklahoma. This is NOT his jar, of course! ;-) But, we are sure he would have admired it!
EXCELLENT CONDITION! NO CHIPS! NO CRACKS! The glass is a warm transparent amber, NOT FLASHED ON COLOR, and is VERY SPARKLING! There are some bubbles completely encased inside the glass, none burst, and bubbles are a common finding in vintage pressed glass. I see some very fine, very light scratches ...nothing at all objectionable or noticeable on display. Her seams are prominent and you can feel them. This is a SPECTACULAR piece of soda fountain/candy store glass and one for your collection for sure! You won't be disappointed, she's an absolute BEAUTY!
