KODAK POPULAR BROWNIE BOX CAMERA c1937/40

 

This is a Brownie ‘Popular’ Box camera made in London between 1937 and 1940 with the camera taking 2¼″ x 3½″ (6x9cm) exposures on 620 film.

 

The leatherette covering of the entire frame is in excellent condition with no rips, tears or lifting. It has a meniscus lens and a shutter with two positions - Time and Instantaneous. Both selections are operating well. 

 

The front part of the camera has a wooden frame and was a very straightforward and easy-to-use camera in its day and is still sought after by many collectors as one of Kodak’s smaller box cameras measuring just 4¼” x 4” x 3”. This one shows only a very little tarnishing on the chrome parts and would certainly look perfectly happy among its contemporaries.
