VINTAGE MAHOGANY "Wig Stand" Style PLANTER
PLANT STAND

This is very attractive mahogany planter that has a ring on the top for a plant to be inset, a triangular cupboard with two drawers in the center (drawer fronts are burled and have nice brass hardware) ... and descends to three cabriole legs which have a triangular shelf between them ... that has a rosette in the center. This type of piece is generally called a "wig stand" -- pieces like this were originally made in the 1700s to be exactly that -- the place that held those white powdered wigs when not being worn. This "wig stand" design was revived in the neo-colonial era of the 1870s ... the American centennial, when many of the traditional colonial designs were revived. During the revival period, this design was modified to be a plant stand -- something that every self-respecting Victorian home had. These so-called wigstand planters have been made continuously since the 1870s. This one at auction dates to the 1920s ... it is quite well made of mahogany hardwoods and veneers and is in good condition and is sturdy ...with no damage or repairs.   It has an attractive silhouette, a rich original patina and is very sturdy and well made.

Condition Good estate condition. Very sturdy. All original with no damage or repairs. All our items are used or antique and, as such, have the normal amount of wear and tear that's commensurate with their age.

You will receive more than one email both from eBay and from Lennon Hall Antiques. The most important email will be your eBay invoice and you can click through on that to pay for your item. We reserve the right to void the auction if we don't receive payment in 10 days.

SHIPPING DETAILS

Once you pay for your item it will be packed for shipping. The method of shipping depends on the size of your purchase. Most things are crated or boxed by our PROFESSIONAL SHIPPER. You will receive an email from us or from iship.com with a tracking number. Small items are sent via USPS Priority Mail and should arrive in a few days. We have just started using Greyhound to save you money. Please note that if we do use Greyhound it can save you up to 50% of the cost of UPS, FedEx or our blanket wrap trucker. However, you have to pick up your items at the Greyhound depot. Most times the money saved makes this worth it. Alternatives are: medium size pieces (small pieces of furniture, etc.) going by UPS; these items are generally custom boxed and typically arrive within a few days to a week. Large pieces of furniture are custom crated and shipped by our trucker, Arrow Express. Once the trucker picks up your item from us, it normally takes two to three weeks to arrive. However, many things can impact the time of a truck shipment so it can take as long as eight weeks, depending on your location.

About Shipping Costs: We are working very hard to keep shipping costs down and because both USPS and UPS have raised their rates and the trucker is charging a surcharge, we have recently started using Greyhound to help reduce the shipping prices you pay. This does necessitate your picking up the item on your end at the Greyhound station - we hope the money saved compensates for the time involved in doing this. WE ALWAYS COMBINE SHIPPING TO DISCOUNT MULTIPLE PURCHASES BUT THEY MAY NOT BE ABLE TO BE BOXED TOGETHER. PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND.

About LOCAL (NY tri-state area) shipments: We always welcome pick ups and never charge for this service. Also, we have a local delivery service that can deliver up to five items for the same price, anywhere within the NY tri-state area. If you are local, please ask for a price quote for this very affordable service.

INSURANCE

We always include insurance in your shipping price. Antiques and vintage items are vulnerable to any aggressive handling so it's important they always be insured when shipping. We value our products and are as upset as you are if anything gets damaged!
