VINTAGE MICHIGAN U S HIGHWAY 45 SHIELD BADGE ROAD SIGN
Look long and hard but I doubt you'll find another one of these signs. This is an original very old embossed shield cut road sign for U.S. 45 in Michigan.
As you can see this is not a flat sign, all the detailing is embossed (raised). The metal is very heavy. The sign weighs almost 5 pounds. She measures 15-1/2 inches by 16 inches.
Notice on the back the brown paper sticking to the sign. This was the remanants of brown waxed paper that was put inbetween the signs to keep them from rubbing together. By looking at the back, I don't think this sign was ever put into use. The front does have some signs of use I suspect from having contact with other signs when they were stacked together. It has a nice patina about it. There are no dings or dents in this sign.
This sign was legally salvaged from a county garage that was shut down a number of years ago. This sign was found sitting in a cupboard, leading me to believe she never saw service.
This is a rare find indeed. Don't pass this one up as you know how hard the cut out shields are to find these days. They're mostly all gone.
