UP FOR BID IS A VINTAGE OLD CROWN ALE SERVING TRAY.
15 inches in diameter.
Its condition is apparent in photos - no rust, no holes, no bends; just scratches and something black at the top of the crown and on the back of the tray.
From the Centlivre (aka "Old Crown") Brewery in Fort Wayne, Indiana - which, I believe, closed in the early 70's and was razed in 1989.
I do not know how old this particular tray is. However, I purchased it (with the leather strap that is currently attached to it) in the early 70's at an antique store. Fortunately, the tray itself provides a clue as to its age - "Fort Wayne, Ind. (7)". The "7" is the postal code for the Brewery. One- and two-digit Postal Codes were implemented by the USPS in 1943, and were replaced by Zip Codes in 1963. Therefore, this tray was manufactured between 1943 and 1963, making it at least 46 years old and possibly 66 years old.
Since purchasing this tray, I have displayed it at my residences in Fort Wayne, Huntington & Columbia City, Indiana; Ypsilanti, Flint & Warren, Michigan; Colorado Springs & Divide, Colorado; Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
