VINTAGE PAPER FOLDING FAN ADVERTISING FRENCH CHAMPAGNE
This is an old paper folding fan, advertising the French champagne called Dry Monopole. This was also the name of a race horse in 1887.
The fan measures 9" long. When opened, it measures approximately 15 1/2" across.
The fan is constructed with wood sticks held together by a rivet at the head. The fan has 2 sheets of folded paper. The back sheet is plain white, which has yellowed from age.
The front is printed with a scene at a racetrack. The man in the foreground on the left side is writing on a piece of paper, or card. On the right is an anthropomorphic Dry Monopole champagne bottle with a man's head, arms, legs and feet.
In the background are racehorses and jockeys.
Printed at the bottom of the fan in tiny letters is "Imp. E. Chambrelent & Co. Paris".
The paper has a few small rips, and the 2 layers are separating on the ends. The fan folds up with no problem.
Thanks for looking!
