VINTAGE REMINGTON RAND TYPEWRITER w/cover (WORKING) MODEL SEVENTEEN THE ONLY #'S I FOUND WAS ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE FRAME UNDER THE SPACE BAR : 241016 - 3 I AM STARTING THE BIDDING LOW BECAUSE OF THE CONDITION OF THE TYPEWRITERS BODY. IT WAS FOUND WITHOUT A HARD CASE AND LOOKS TO HAVE BEEN WELL USED BY (?) I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHO OWNED THIS....MAYBE HEMINGWAY HIMSELF! I HAVE CLEANED IT UP AND OILED IT TO PREVENT RUSTING.....THERE ARE SOME VERY MINOR RUST, PROBABLY BECAUSE WE HAVE AN AVERAGE OF 6-8% HUMIDITY IN ARIZONA (IT'S A DRY HEAT) : - D THERE ARE SOME MINOR TEARS IN THE COVER AND IT COULD USE SOME TLC, BUT IT WOULD MAKE A GREAT VINTAGE PIECE FOR ANY COLLECTOR, WRITER OR SELLER . . . . ALL THE KEYS WORK AND THE RIBBON IS STILL IN TACT. THE PAPER WAS CREATED RIGHT BEFORE THE PICTURES WERE TAKEN . . . . . I AM SELLING THIS ITEM "AS-IS" WITH NO RETURN ACCEPTED BECAUSE OF THE WEIGHT OF THE ITEM TO SHIP IT BACK. I WILL SHIP THE KEYS ONLY IF THAT IS WHAT THE WNNING BIDDER WANTS TO SAVE ON SHIPPING EXPENSE....IF YOU WIN THE ITEM AND SEND ME AN EMAIL BEFORE YOU PAY, I CAN ADJUST THE SHIPPING AND HANDLING, USUALLY RUNS ABOUT $3-$5. Sometimes alternately labeled "Model 17" or "No.17" or not labeled at all . The model debuted in 1939 and became the primary workhorse for government offices during WWII. In 1947, it was renamed the KMC (for Keyboard Margin Control). The model was discontinued in 1950 Remington started production of the first commercial typewriter in 1873. Remington’s typewriter business was spun off in 1886, sold to the Standard Typewriter Manufacturing Company, which later merged with the Rand Kardex Company in 1927, to form Remington Rand. The company continued to make typewriters, and later electric razors and computers (including the first UNIVAC). The Remington Rand Model Seventeen was released in 1939, with the innovation of rubber-topped, rather than glass-topped keys, and did much of the typing for the US military during WWII. It stayed in production until 1950 .Size: 12 " x 13 1/2" x 7" Check out my other items!
