Its always nice to have a dated quilt, this one is from 1939.
Its done in a shoofly type pattern and each block has a name hand emroidered, sometimes just a first name, some times first last and/or Mr and Mrs.
I am sorry to say I bought this on ebay and didnt pay attention to where it came from, so I cant be of any help to the wonderful quilt historians out there.
The quilt is joined together with green and white sashings and a 9 patch block is formed where they intersect.
Nice vintage cottons, many feedsacks,pretty pink backing. 42 blocks total.
The center inscription reads " Presented to Mr and Mrs L. Wagner Jan 22nd, 1939.
All the signatures are pretty ledgible: Stacie Cox, Laura Wagner, sadie Wagner, Mr& Mrs E.E. Prim, Masbel Long, Mr and Mrs Bob Trarllian,Zelma, Doyne...
The only issue with the quilt is that the inscription square bled so there is some pinkish run off on that square, faint but viible on the fornt side only.
It looks like all the blocks are hand pieced and I would say they are quilted by the same hand. Even stitches about 6-7 spi.
The batting is a medium cotton. the binding is applied by machine, its a thin light pink fabric, I dont think its a store bought binding, I think its cut from strips of fabric. There is not any wear to it.
Its very clean, previous owner had just washed it, I have just had it folded in my closet. There are no terars or worn areas.
It measures 72" x 84", a nice quilt.
