Suzanis have great historical depth and meaning. They are an evolving expression of ancient aesthetic and technological traditions. Suzanis remain an integral part of the region’s cultural identity band a source of national pride. It surrounded Uzbek people during all their lives and has a very especial value on celebrations. Handmade embroidery of Suzanis attract attention by their mysteriousness and beauty of pattern. Embroidery of suzani was the only way of the fine arts accessible for woman. In the pattern of embroidery women can express their mood, feelings and fantasy. That is why the patterns of suzanis are full of Emotional saturation. Embroidered hangings were required decoration in the homes of Uzbek people.

This one item is an Uzbek silk handmade embroidery - Suzani from Surkhandarya. The age of the item is the middle of the 20th century. The foundation of the handmade embroidery is silk fabric of the sunny yellow color. This item has a traditonal Surkhandarya design. It is composed of the multicolored flower-rosettes. The rosettes are composed of multiple various blossoms, buds and leaves. The border field of the suzani is filled with nice shoots and leaves. All the pattern of the suzani symbolizes fertility, well-being and harmony. This textile has many bright colors and was made with great workmanship and love.

Size: 115-55 in (294-140 cm)

Condition: good, but some colors faded.
