VINTAGE YAMAHA FG-300 ACOUSTIC GUITAR, RED LABEL FG-300 NIPPON GAKKI WITH ORIGINAL CASE. This is a beautiful and rare example of early Yamaha acoustic guitar production. I think it a late 60's model. The serial number is 750338, on the inside of the guitar near the neck joint. This is a fairly deluxe guitar. Beautiful double inlays on the bound neck, original Yamaha stamped tuners, "Made In Japan" label on back of headstock, matched back and sides ( I'm pretty sure it's a laminate and not a solid top guitar ), original frets, very little neck wear- mostly in the g,c,d area-, very nice binding and inlay around soundhole and sides. The only non-original item is a strap peg in the neck position. It looks like the bridge has been reset at some point. If it was done, it was a very professional job. There is a line or crack in the neck heel that doesn't look like it has been messed with in any way. The guitar plays and sound amazingly well. Nice big sound, rich and balanced. It would appeear from pics and info from ebayers that these guitars came with a larger pickguard, more like a Gibson Hummingbird shape, and that the bridge was a weird adjustable-saddle electric type. This guitar came to us from a donor who has been the long time owner and the guitar has been in its current form as long as he had it. This could mean two things: (1) The guitar is a weird one-off from Yamaha that has slightly different appointments than the regular production models, or (2) at some point in the distant past, the original owner decided that he or she wanted a different pickguard and a more traditional acoustic guitar bridge. If #2 is our option, the work was very well done - I can't see any evidence of another pickguard being on the guitar, but the bridge looks like it could have been changed if you look really closely. The bridge looks like hose found on othe Yamaha guitars of the period, though, so it may have been replaced with a Yamaha part? I hope that helps. This guitar sounds GREAT!!! In very good condition for it's age. No scratches or rash on the back, beyond regular SMALL marks that would be on a guitar of this age that has been well taken care of. The original case is in great condition, with cool Yamaha logo on the outside. One of the small plastic feet on the bottom of the case is missing, but all latches are present and it works perfectly. I'm trying to be as accurate as possible. Guitar is sold As-Is due to it's age. Let me know if you have any questions, and I will do my best to answer them. This guitar is being auctioned to support an afterschools music program for 4-8th graders in rural North Carolina. The proceeds will be used to buy smaller-sized guitars for our students.
