What is the major different between Microsoft OEM Version Operating system & Retail Box Version? and why OEM is cheaper than Retail Box Version and how to correctly install it?
I ) OEM means “Original Equipment Manufacturer". OEM Full Version Vista is for system builder, PC hobbyists for “clone” or no-name computers, plus all self assemble systems (or for home user who have in-depth knowledge to replace their OLD operating system by doing a clean installation). OEM versions come with only an electronic help manual, which is built-in to the software or a small getting-started manual. The software itself contains the same programs as the Retail Box version, except the Retail Box version normally comes with a small printed manual & with fancy retail box. OEM Software does not included Microsoft free tech support since it's intent for user with in-depth knowledge to install operating System. Microsoft OEM software includes a COA, which is a Certificate of Authenticity Label/Sticker from the manufacturer-Microsoft (COA is a blue/yellow label sticker with product key attach to back of plastic DISC holder), plus key code for you to key in during installation, and for your system to be activated/registed with Microsoft in order to receive Windows Update Such as Internet Explorer 7, Windows Defender, Media Player 11, and so on.
II ) Microsoft OEM FULL VERSION software if installed by home user don't have to install your OEM version of OS using the preinstalled environment, as Microsoft suggests. Instead, you can just insert the DVD/CD and install it as normal. The OPK method is ONLY for system builders who are setting up multiple PCs at once, but you don't have to use it. The reason OEM licenses for OS are cheaper than retail versions is that they are tied to your PC system's specific motherboard--if you replace the motherboard, you may have to get a new Vista license key from Microsoft. A call to Microsoft will reactivate your OS in the event of a motherboard swap.
III ) Microsoft OEM FULL VERSION is NOT an upgrade version, IT WILL NOT LOAD ON TOP OF OTHER OPERATING SYSTEM! which mean you MUST do a FLASH (CLEAN) installation, included format your hard drive! You have to BOOT from your computer system's DVD-ROM DRIVE, with Microsoft OS FULL VERSION DVD DISC in your DVD-ROM Drive, ( make sure your computer system BIOS will BOOT from DVD-ROM DRIVE first), BOOT from Microsoft OS DVD DISC in you disc drive (* by pressing any key when your PC's screen told you to do so, please pay attention cause this message only show for 3 second!), once it's BOOT up from Microsoft installation DVD DISC, just follow installation procedure to load OS and make sure you FORMAT your hard drive and install OS from FLASH. * Please don't forgot to take out your installation DVD DISC and reset your BIOS to boot from system's hard drive first after you complete installation.
