Vixen A70Lf with Porta Mount


When I first started in amateur astronomy, I did as most beginners and purchased a department store telescope that advertised the most power. (700x I believe) Unfortunately, again like most beginners, I found that the advertised power was impossible due to the size of the telescope and more importantly the lack of stability of the mount.

Time and again I speak to parents and children who tell me how frustrated they are that after finding Saturn in a beginner telescope they can’t get a good view of the rings because the mount is too shaky or the telescope controls too difficult to adjust. I hear many tell me that they tried once many years ago and now the scope is sitting in a closet collecting dust!

Well it is Vixen Optics to the rescue!

If you are looking for the most affordable starting package, the A70Lf with Porta Mount is the one. This package combines sharp optics and a rock solid, light weight mount. It takes just seconds to place the telescope on the mount and you are ready for an evening of observing.

The NEW Porta Mount is an easy to use, light weight, stable mount. It has the vixen dove tail connection to easily attach your telescope and smooth friction bearing up-down / right-left hand controls.



The A70Lf is an Achromatic Refractor with 70mm (2.8”) of aperture. Its focal length is 900mm (3 ft.) with an f ratio of 12.9. Its light gathering is 100 times better than the human eye and has a maximum (realistic) power of 143X. It weighs about 4 lbs.



The A70lf OTA (Optical Tube Assembly) comes complete with:
  • A smaller 6x24mm finder telescope that attaches to the main scope to help you center the object.
  • A 20mm eyepiece for general viewing.
  • A 6.3mm eyepiece for those really clear nights for high power viewing.
  • A diagonal Prism that connects the eyepiece to the telescope.
  • A Dew / Sun shield.
  • A Complete tube rings and dovetail plate to quickly attach the A70Lf to one of the optional Vixen mounts
  • Tube Diameter Length and Weight: 76mm x 865mm (3 x 34 in); 1.9 kg (4 lbs)


The Vixen PORTA MOUNT comes equipped with two fine adjustment handles for whole circle slow motion in both directions. It is useful for fine motion in searching and tracking celestial objects. In addition, it is a great mount for terrestrial viewing. Our gear drives it make it a simple matter to precisely track a planet or a ship on the horizon by simply turning the elevation and or azimuth control handles. The “World-Standard” dovetail attachment system on PORTA was developed by Vixen. This allows the PORTA to accept various dovetail mounted optical tubes and binoculars.
