Up for sale is an ANTIQUE 19c WHITE PIE SAFE CUPBOARD. This cupboard was made by REI Asher & Co. of St. Louis, Missouri. The back of the cupboard has a large amount of stenciled words. At the bottom it states Patented April 11, 1882. It measures approximately 72”T x 37”W x 16”D. It appears to be all original wood, including the primitive circular saw rough sawn shelving inside. It is unknown how long this has been painted the way it is shown. It appears that there are 1 to 2 other coats of paint underneath. It almost appears that the last color scheme was the green of the top piece on everything except for the drawer faces and bottom door recessed panels, which appeared to be a brighter red. This cupboard could stay the way it is with its distressed country look or it could possibly make an excellent candidate for a restoration.

The top section has two hinged doors with a total opening of 33”W x 35”T. The left door appears to have some repaired damage on the upper left corner and the right door may have been repaired by the hinges as there is a difference in texture. There are two large shelves inside that free float. The shelf stops go span the entire side and are dovetailed into the front and back frames. The doors have amber textured and frosted plastic panels, which are not original. We do not know what was originally in its place, but on the inside of the doors there are remnants of a material that looks like window screen. The two drawer faces measure 16”W x 4”T and the bottom area measures 33”W x 23”T. Inside the bottom is one shelf that is tacked down. Each side had two punched tin panel near the top that are intact and have no apparent damage. These tin panels are another possibility of what could have originally been on the front doors. The back of the cupboard is also in good condition as shown.

Please view all of the pictures to see the condition of this piece. This piece is around 130 years old and with the multiple paint coats it is difficult to find the little things. This was most likely a regularly used item in its time and wear to reflect this should be expected inside and out. Nevertheless it is a great piece and should be regarded as such.
