VMC 81 7up 7 UP round top Soda Machine very rare 50's

First time on the market is my round top VMC 81 7up machine (reluctantly). From talks w/ various collectors over the years(including Steve Ebner in Maryland), around 2,000 of these were made (actual production numbers are up for debate it seems). I am the second owner after the original distributor who put it in the laundromat in Wyoming in 1957. The 7up logo is embossed on the door. It measures 7 1/4" wide and 8 1/2" tall; the bubbles are flat and not embossed. The machine has the double sets of narrow louvers; this is the "real deal" folks. The machine has original white paint throughout, no touch up ever. It does have some paint nicks from the brief time it spent in the laundry business; and a few minor dents too.

Here is a list of the new parts I had to put on it:

  • new wiring harness (orig was badly cracked from age)
  • new foam gasket inside coin door
  • new coin door lock/key from Funtronics (orig was gone)
  • new coin catcher box
  • new lower fan and bracket
  • 8 new soaker wafers in drip pan

The lower fan and bracket was missing; ie the reason they took it out of service after about 5 months was because the fan went bad. All the other parts I have not named are original to the machine and in wonderful condition. The main door gasket is like new. The door liner w/ it's decals is like new (not a single crack in it). The breaker strips w/ black foam on the main cabinet are like new. The compressor is like new w/ original black paint throughout and original paper tags. It cools ice cold on any setting, cycles like it should, and fans run real quiet and smooth. There is a fill valve on the freon line, installed by the jobber at some point in time (not by me). The ID tag on side reads: "H81D serial #105154F 41 VT1D refrig unit Low 140 High 235 Charge 12oz Capacity 2050 btu 21 psig 1/4 HP 115v 60 cycle 1PH 5 amp".

It stands 58 1/2" tall, 27" wide, and 21" deep w/ the coin box. All the decals on coin box and VMC tag are original items. The 7up decals on sides are original. It does not have the side cabinet door bumper; missing but they are reproduced. It vends on a dime every time. The door light works great too. The gold anodizing is original on coin mechanism (see side lettering). All I did was clean the dust off the machine from decades of inside storage. The galvanized inner liner is shiny and really clean (see pic of fridge unit removed). One louver just below the drip pan is broken only on one end and is thus not attached to cabinet on that end but hard to tell this. The dents are as follows: I feel 4 tiny bb sized dings on left side panel about 1/2 way down as you face machine: I feel a 25 cent sized circular ding on top of machine on right hand side: I feel a tiny dent on the back right side on the very edge of extruding panel that sticks out. No dents I can see on the entire front of machine.

It did not have the empty flag mechanism from the factory (to right of coin mech, 2 holes in cabinet never had screws into them). The window is factory "whited out" on the beautiful original chrome bezel. The original drip pan and spring are in wonderful shape, has original stainless soaker holder. All shelves are original and all have the original springs and sliders intact and working.

This machine is for the serious collector who demands and appreciates originality and the value of having one of the cleanest original 7up 81's in America.

I can professionally crate and deliver to Forward Air in Denver if that is your choice. I must charge $125 for this (its a 400 mi round trip). I have crated and shipped over 100 machines/gas pumps w/ them over the years w/ no damage ever. Actual shipping is up to you. I can deliver if not too far away for gas money, or you can pickup in person here in Encampment, WY 82325 (90 mi w of Laramie and 40 mi s of I80). Another option may be to use North American Van Lines at 1-800-959-8880; they do "door to door" and can get the semi right to my front door.

I will not end the auction early for any offers, nor will I, out of fairness to all bidders, reveal the reserve for any reason. Bid what you think it is worth to you.
