A: this unit has many uses. it can combine two analog (regular plain Jane telephone lines) into a common point. This allows you to create a dual line telephone suite(telephone, answering. modem) etc for way less than the cost of a two line phone and two line answering machines and modems don't commonly exist. Further, VOIP has become very popular and users gain tremendous long distance rates rates, however they don't have a "local presence" and often back up the voip with a single plain Jane telephone line. the clt will join voip and telco to a signal automatic port for the ultimate convience! Plus no power supply or batteries to clutter your desktop! Plus all port surge protected to protect you equipment! plus two additional universal (I/O) line 1 and line 2 dedicated ports... enabling an even wider array of connection schemes. A: S&H outside CONUSA (48 USA states) costs more. The tariff difference varies based on exact location. The range is about $1.00 to Canada and Mexico, and Hawaii. yes! you can take a two line phone jack if you have two pstn lines or you can join your voip and a separate phone jack using the universal line 1 line...more Thanks for the questions and consideration! The CLT will combine incoming and outbound calls automatically to your single handset and other telephone equipment as well. INcoming calls for either line are routed to the automatic output port. For outbound, the exact method the clt uses is: It chooses the last line used for outbound calls. So say that VOIP is on line 1 and pstn on line 2, when you make an outbound call you can se which line is being used as the LED will show you, and you can select a line1 if you like. If you ar not near the clt but always want to make calls on line 1, The following method is suggested from customers in the fild: They pick up hand set and dial line 1 for one ring and hang up. This sets the clt to line1 always! then they re-lift the handset (or remote) and make a call on line1.. IN addition to superior sound quality of the clt, the clt does not use a wall wart power supply, so it cost you less to purchase and ship and the life time electrical cost to operate add up to the cost of others in a short period of time.So the clt is also less to own and operate, as weel as to buy and ship!
