Of my VDGs, this model is perhaps my favorite because it is still extremely powerful and will produce currents and voltages much higher than more pricey units found on the educational supply market, however is still comfortable to the touch. If you are just starting with your collection either as a coiler (Tesla coil) or as a high voltage enthusiast, this is a great unit to start experimenting with. Unlike coils, these are very approachable and are intriguing to observe and manipulate. The sting from this unit would be comparable to that of a very small Tesla coil, but with a much greater voltage which invokes its very unique effects.

When I film these videos, what I really wish I could convey is the piercing feeling from the field and the strong breeze of electrons that permeate and charge the air and surrounding objects. My extremely larger units will cause objects in the room to arc to grounded sources and will cause local observes to have sparking feet and glowing finger tips.

I have been building these units now for about 3 years and plan to continue at a limited rate due to time constraints because I am a full time physics and chemistry teacher. I thoroughly abide to my warranty and guarantee that this unit will outperform any other unit on the market because of the components that I use. Experimenter Ideas: (These experiments will only work with the larger VDG's because of the higher currents. The smaller VDG as found on the web will be capable of a few of the following demos, hence why I make VDGs)

1) Insulate yourself touching the VDG while pointing at various objects in the room to place a charge on. When done to a chandelier it will cause arcs within the chain.

2) Insulate and charge yourself with 400,000V and then step off of the insulated material and experience the feeling of your body just electrically shut off from the field.

3) Wrap the bottom roller with a metallic coating and force feed it with a 15,000V charge to induce higher currents. These VDG are designed to do so.

4) Wrap a balloon in foil and then hang it from a string attached to the ceiling so that it can touch the dome. Turn on the VDG and watch the outcome.

5) Take two pie pans and attach a positive and negative lead from the VDG to each pan. Next place small foil leaves between the pans or string. Very cool to see!

6) Bring fluorescent tubes near the VDG. This makes a great visual for examining electric fields. The tube will begin to glow at 5 feet away.

7) Charging Lynden Jar and high voltage beer cup capacitors (dangerous!!!)

8) Place pie pans on the generator and watch them fly.

9) Static electricity motors and ion jets.

10) Just insulate yourself to feel your entire body light up from being immersed in the 400,000V electric field. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!! However if someone touches you....ouch. This seems to be my students favorite thing to do especially with the x-large 700,000V VDG where they will develop 8 inch arcs coming off of them when approached. Yes, this is a crowd pleaser!!!
