Vassar College 1918 Letter Influenza Death Nurses Meals

An original letter including the envelope.  The letter is dated Vassar College Oct. 7, 1918.  The letter reads:

Dearest Mother,

Well, at last I am up and dressed again and am going to go down to meals today for the first time.  It will indeed be a relief not to have the sloppy trays that I have been having......I feel fairly well now but it wouldn't take a very strong gust of wind to blow me over.  After eight days in bed one really doesn't feel very animated.  The doctor has been awfully nice to me & all the girls have been great.  The doctor felt so badly because we couldn't be better taken care of but there were so very many people sick and they could not get the extra nurses that they needed........There has only been one very bad case so far that was one of the seniors who had pneumonia with the influenza and she died Friday night .  There has been only one other case of pneumonia that I have heard of and I think she must be getting better as she has had it for sometime.....(signature)

The letter is in very good condition, with some light wear.
