This is a pair of Venetian mask fishhook earrings in stainless steel under plated silver in an unopened cellophane wrapper. Each mask is created in painted enamel of blue, green and red and accented with 7 faceted Swarovski crystals.

The Mascareri of Venice formed their own guild in 1436, creating the masks worn by the celebrators of il Carnevale di Venezia, which ran from December 26th until Shrove Tuesday. Many patterned after the cast of the Commedia dell'Arte and often worn year round, masks were considered to be the safest hiding place, a place where noone would know who you were and anything could be done!
