Kites
by Pat Hartman

This must have been a Steve Eideken kite, as described by Al Hargus III on a kite-related website.
"...  we saw a Skippy peanut butter commercial on TV. In the background was absolutely the neatest "bunch" of kites flying in a row . They had tails and looked like a rainbow. (I later learned that this was Steve Eideken and he was flying Rainbow stunt kites in a train.)"

When the artist took the photo on which this painting was based, she didn't know who Steve Eideken was, or that he was probably the one flying that marvelous kite at Venice Beach, where his workshop was. Eideken was later killed in 1983 when assisting at the launch of what was at the time the world's largest kite. Another interesting fact is that no-one seems to be sure how to spell his name, since it's listed in half the online sources as Steve Edieken.

This is not an assembly-line painting like we see so many of, but a one-of-a-kind original work by an American artist.
This acrylic painting is 24" x 18". It is simply framed with painted wooden slats and will be shipped without being disassembled.
Depending on your computer monitor and other factors, the colors may appear somewhat differently.
