This auction is for a nice antique cast iron book press. This press is in very nice condition. All posts and bolts are very secure. We can not find any cracks in the casting. But there is a little chipping on both sides where the top platen plate rotates a little hitting the side posts. It only adds to the charm of this fine antique. Please look at the pictures, as there is an extensive amount of original gold accenting on this piece. We can not find any makers mark on this press, but it may be there and we just have not found it. This book press has a base that measures 17"x11". The platen measures 12 ½"x 10". When this press is fully opened it has a total height of 16". When it is closed the total height is 12 ½". The diameter of the wheel is 10". This press opens and closes freely, in fact it rotates so well that you can spin the wheel with 1 finger. As with all cast iron book presses it has some weight to it. The press itself weighs approximately 65 pounds. This is truly one of the most decorative book presses we have ever come across. This would be a great piece for the collector.
