This is a fine old Viennese violin made by Johann Georg Thir in 1777. The violin carries it's original copy as follows: Joannes Giorgius Thir, fecit Viennae, Anno 1777. The violin bears two repairs labels as follows Antonius Mitters, Repariert 1824 and Curt Wunderlich, New York 1928. The violin measures 13 & 15/16" and is full size.

The violin is in excellent condition, some assorted repairs all expertly performed. This is a very light weight instrument as the top, back and ribs are quite thin. There is a wonderful attention to detail in this violin. The kind of detail that can be found in 18th century paintings and other fine arts of the period. This is a precisely made instrument, symmetry of the design, balanced with high graceful arching made by a master. Made with perfect control attaining exact what he intended to create.

The violin is ready for immediate playing. New bridge and string with a charming antique tailpiece. The violin has a sweet very balanced tone with a lot of warmth and charm.An elegant refined violin suitable for a professional violinist or a fine specimen suitable for the discerning collector.
