Item Description: An extremely rare, antique, and unused "Tinner" hammer - perfectly weighted and able to reach into tight, square corners. A perfect gift for the craftsman or collector who thinks they have seen every tool ever made!!
This unusual hammer is 50+ YEARS OLD and is still in NEW CONDITION. The hammer has never been used, and is still in its ORIGINAL BOX with the name "Hexdall Hammer" printed on it.
Special Feature: This hammer also comes with a documented account (originally written and given to my father in 1999 by a living, elderly relative of the inventor himself) describing the inventor, his life trade and other circumstances surrounding the invention of this special hammer.
A Brief History of the Hexdall Hammer: Hexdall Hammers were invented by Mr. Andrew "Andy" Hexdall. Andy was a first generation American - the son of an immigrant who was naturalized in Grundy County. Andy lived in Morris, Illinois and was a prolific inventor in addition to being a "Tinner" and "furnace man" by trade. I have researched and found United States patents issued to Andy from the early 1940's thru the early 1970's. Most are for tools and equipment that were related to his trade (for example, this Hexdall hammer, a portable sheet metal bending tool, a heavy duty metal snips, and metal cutting shears, etc.). In addition, I have found other interesting patents - such as one for a "Heat Storage Device" that Andy had patented in November 1958. Andy Hexdall invented the "Hexdall Hammer" when he found that regular hammers were not adequate for quality tinning and working in tight, square corners. According to a relative, the Hexdall Hammers were cast in Rockford, Illinois in the 1940's or early 1950's.
Don't miss out on an opportunity to own a real piece of 20th century American history!!!
