| Vickers M14/2 Pol Petrographic Polarizing Microscope
This is an original student and lab microscope from the 1970s, made by Vickers of England. It is a model that was widely used in college geology programs for educational and laboratory work. This example has a simple non-centering stage, but also a more advanced 4-place centerable turret, complete with four objectives. The three with red lettering are certified pol versions, but the 3x scanning objective with black lettering is also virtually strain free. The microscope works well and gives good bright images as tested with my basalt slides. Please note the inclusion of two excellent compensating wave plates, by Vickers, with rotating plate windows.
The following are included:
-
Vickers 10x cross hair pol eyepiece, monocular head with Bertrand lens
-
intermediate tube with sliding analyzer
-
Four-place centering turret with slot for a 4x12 wave plate, and the following Vickers short-barrel objectives labeled: 3/0.1 (black lettering); 5/0.15 (red lettering); 10/0.25 (red lettering); and 40/0.65 (red lettering)
-
Two Vickers compensating wave plates, a whole wave and a 1/4 wave, with rotating filter windows
-
fixed condenser, with iris and a pol filter that can rotate 90 degrees
-
Removable lamp holder with a 15w tungsten bulb, and adjustment for centering the filament
-
Vickers transformer, set up for North American 115 voltage and plug
-
two stage clips, and a vinyl dust cover
The microscope works well and movements are smooth. The polarizing filter below the condenser has two small bubbles on the side, which have no apparent effect on pol extinction. The stand has a fair finish, with some scuffs marks and small scratches, but the stage surface is good and it rotates smoothly. Some chrome is worn away on the objectives. The transformer has some scratches but works well. I will warrant that when this microscope leaves my shop, it is complete, clean, adjusted, tested, and functioning as described.
The microscope and transformer weigh more than 5 kg, and several more kg will be added with packing, so be warned: overseas shipping is expensive! I no longer ship out of the country by surface parcel, so it will be by XpressPost, which is faster and has better tracking. Domestic and USA shipping can go by Expedited Parcel. I will charge only the actual mailing cost, nothing extra -- please check the shipping calculator before bidding. The microscope is at my shop in New Brunswick, Canada and will be shipped from here. As always, local pickup is free.
International customers: Additional taxes and fees might also be charged by your government, which I cannot calculate for you. Please be aware that we cannot control shipping problems, lack of tracking, rough handling, and slow border customs service, which can add days or weeks to the delivery time. I regret that these have become very common problems that you must accept for international sales. We will pack it carefully, mail it within 2 days of payment, and charge only the actual shipping. We will also respond to any questions or concerns.
If you are not satisfied with it, contact me within 7 days of receipt, send everything back in the same good condition, and I will refund your money (not shipping).
