- DESCRIPTION:
Beautiful vintage 1890's Victorian dress from a Virginia Farm estate sale. The sad story of this dress is that it was made for as part of a young woman's bridal trousseau. This was her "going away" dress. She was married, but the hapless bridegroom was killed in a horse & buggy accident on the honeymoon. She returned home, placed the dress in a chest and it's been there ever since, until the home was finally emptied for an auction sale of all the contents.
♥ Made with bronzey brown brocade silk satin
♥ Both pieces are lined with a tan polished cotton and the skirt has a layer of stiff gauze between the cotton and silk. This makes the skirt quite crisp and holds it shape nicely
♥ Fitted bodice is boned
♥ The shoulders, yoke and down the front of the a light green silk is overlayed with black lace and the front opening is outlined with a tight ruffle that extends around the sleeves and across the back of the yoke
♥ Bodice fastens underneath on the cotton with hooks and eyes (some of the eyes are missingg)
♥ The long sleeves end with a pointed cuff that is backed with the green silk and black lace
♥Gored "morning-glory" or "trumpet" skirt flares gracefully at the bottom, the effect being acheived by gores that widen as they fall and smaller godets inset at the hemline. The back is gathered for a small bustle pad and slightly trained in the back
♥ Skirt closes with hook and eye set
♥ The hemline is bound with matching gold velvet

- CONDITION: Good - Obviously most garments that are over 100 years old are not going to be pristine. This dress will need to be cleaned and have some repairs done. There is a small reddish and dark stain on the green silk of the front of the bodice under the rip in the black lace. There is a bit of shattering of the green silk at the shoulder seams and across the back of the yoke, but since it's under the lace, it's not noticable. One sleeve has a dark spot at the seam and the skirt has a light spot on the center front near the bottom (see close up images at right)

Please remember that this item is secondhand and has a history. We try to note any flaws, but if we miss a few loose stitches, a tiny hole, a scratch or a little ding, this is not considered "misrepresentation" as these things are common in used or secondhand items and can be easily overlooked.
We usually ship within 3 business days of receiving cleared payment. "Business days" are normal weekdays. Saturdays, Sundays, and major holidays do not count as business days.
