Attention Re-enactors, theatre or film costume designers and textile mavens: Late Victorian/Edwardian SILK VELVET ribbon: 2 1/2" wide x 3 YARDS 14 1/2" long. Never used. In one piece. The black silk velvet was cut from a larger piece of fabric, backed with silk satin, and hand-embroidered with a double row of white silk floss dots that run in an alternating/staggering line the full length of the ribbon. Neither the velvet nor the silk satin have a finished selvage. Probably custom made. A medium-heavy weight and body, holds up well. I used the other part of this ribbon on a satin-covered chair and had no problems with warping or straining. The ribbon offered here is in excellent condition: No rot, splits, or shattering, fading, or discoloring. I would recommend drycleaning as I don't know if the dye is stable. Burn test on the velvet produced an extremely fine ash and smelled of 'hair', not 'plant fiber'. It has been stored for over forty years. Great even color. Unknown origin of manufacture, but it was unused stock of a Chicago milliner's shop. No cutting. This is offered as one piece: Three yards, 14 1/2" long. Could be split length-wise to make 6 yards, 29" with a single row of dots. Excellent choice if you are making a Worth-style gown, re-creating the Ascot scene in "My Fair Lady", or simply wish for a strikingly sophisticated accent. This is the last of this ribbon and won't be offered again. One of several ribbons that I am or will be offering this week or the next several weeks: watch my site. I have a large collection of textiles, trims, lace, antique and vintage clothing. Email me with questions. Sent for $2.50 in a padded envelope within the U.S. by First Class Mail; $4.80 Priority, boxed. Buyer to pay shipping and insurance. International bidding accepted, just add Customs.
