Offering a few items from local estate sale: This is an absolutely gorgeous sterling silver hatpin with the finest stone which appears to be of imperial topaz, the darker, amber-colored topaz not commonly found. The stone itself has beautiful clarity, and is nicely faceted on the pointed-dome top with fluted sides in a sterling silver setting, hallmarked with letters "W.H.L" for its designer and maker, William Henry Leather of Birmingham, England ca. 1895-1909, registered in 1904. Also has three of his hallmarks on the other leg of the setting, generally indicating proof of silver content or quality, and often, where it was made. This hallmark was in use until changed in 1914-1925 to a block style, and in 1928 changed again as the firm was changed to "W.H. Leather & Son". Overall 8 1/2" long, pin is 7", so the stone and setting is quite large. Pin is brass and has very slight bend from use. Silver has nice, dark-toned patina and is in original uncleaned condition. It would be difficult to find a finer stone or such a well-marked piece in pristine condition. We accept Pay Pal. Please add $5 for shipping anywhere in the US. Insurance or expedited shipping optional. Thanks for checking out my auctions! |
