This fantastic Victorian string holder was made during the 19th Century, probably in the United Kingdom. It is of turned wooden construction and is formed as a barrel, on a circular stand, with a metal string cutter and a screw-top lid.
Marks & Backstamps
The string holder is not marked with the maker’s backstamp, which is common, but is guaranteed to be genuine, early and original.
Condition & Size
The string holder has some glue marks around the cutter, possibly original, and a hairline crack on the fitted lid (please refer to the photograph below), which does not greatly detract and is common for an item of this vintage. Other than this, it is in very good condition and measures just over 2½” in height. (The actual barrel measures approximately 2¾“ in length)
