Determining the condition of a trade card

VERY FINE - A card in Very Find condition (VF) must be free of all defects and must have fresh colors.  Cards may have some slight evidence of having been posted into a scrap album on the reverse side and still warrant the VF grading.  However glue stains, album page remnants, scuffs or scrapes on the resverse side will slightly lower the grade but still be in VF condition.

FINE -  A fine quality card is fresh, but is may have a minor corner cresase or very slight edge wear, neither of which affect the image.  A card that is faultless on the front (VF) in appearance, but which shows traces of glue stains on the back is in Fine overall condition.

VERY GOOD -  A very Good (VG) card is fresh, with more than one corner crease, or a single crease that affects the image, or a tiny margin tear, or a small toning spot, a fine appearing card that has moderate glue stains or a resverse side with a small scuff or scrape.  In all cases the flaws must be minor and the card must present itself in an attractive condition.

LESS THAN VERY GOOD - Cards with greater degrees of faults than menitioned are purchased as space filler, until another card becomes available. 

Each collector must judge for himself or herself how much wear and tear he is willing to tolerate, cards with major tears and major creases all should be noted as such with severe damage.
