Publisher's Note
Dutifully accompanying her unemployed husband back to her in-law's cold and loveless house, Ellen Grier finds that she must struggle to keep her passionate spirit alive as she searches for the inner strength to endure an all-pervading darkness that threatens to destroy everything she is and everyone she loves.
In a stark, troubling, yet ultimately triumphant celebration of self-determination, award-winning author A. Mannete Ansay re-creates a stifling world of guilty and pain, and the tormented souls who inhabit it. It is 1972 when circumstance carries Ellen Grier and her family back to Holly's Field, Wisconsin. Dutifully accompanying her newly unemployed husband, Ellen has brought her two children into the home of her in-laws on Vinegar Hill--a loveless house suffused with the settling dust of bitterness and routine--where calculated cruelty is a way of life preserved and perpetuated in the service of a rigid, exacting and angry God. Behind a facade of false piety, there are sins and secrets in this place that could crush a vibrant young woman's passionate spirit. And here Ellen must find the straight to endure, change, and grow in the all-pervading darkness that threatens to destroy everything she is and everyone she loves. Industry reviews
"Ms. Ansay's gift for minute observation allows her to create a place so palpably dreadful that readers will wish they didn't remember 'Vinegar Hill' as clearly as they will."

Seller's description

TOP COVER CORNER HAS TINY FOLD AND IS SEPARATING FROM BACKING.  LIGHT BLACK SMUDGE AND GREEN LINE ON OUTER EDGE OF TOP PAGES.

Please remember these are used books.  I try to find books that are in good shape, but sometimes that is just not possible.  If I see something wrong with the book, I will describe the condition on the listing page.

Please contact me before bidding if you think I have a rare book or first edition book.  Sometimes the ISBN# for a book differs from the eBay listing.  I certainly don't want you to purchase something from me, only to find out it was listed incorrectly.

I only accept PayPal.  I'm sorry, but I don't accept checks or money orders. Also, if you are purchasing more than one item, and the auctions are ending on different days, please wait until you're finished shopping and then you can make one payment for all your books.

All orders are shipped media mail.  I ship the following business day after receiving a cleared payment.  If the post office takes longer than 2 - 9 business days, I apologize for the inconvenience, but it is a matter beyond my control.  Shipments to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico can take 3 - 6 weeks.  You will receive a tracking number from PayPal, so you can check on the status of your shipment at any time.

I charge $3.25 for shipping and $1.00 for each additional eligible book.  I do not offer refunds.  Insurance is available if you would like for $1.65.  If you choose the insurance coverage and your package gets lost or damaged you will be reimbursed for the price you purchased the book for.

Thank you for visiting Turnthepage45.  I hope you found what you were looking for.  I am trying to sell things that will interest a wide variety of people, so please send me a message if you're looking for a certain book or author, and I would be happy to try and find it for you.

Please feel free to contact me through eBay messaging, and I will try and get back to you asap.  If you have a problem or you're not satisfied for some reason, I would certainly like to hear from you.  I can't help you or find a solution to the problem if you just leave negative feedback.

Thank you again for your business and please come back soon!
