Thank you for visiting my auction.
I am excited to offer this nice 1936 Gibson Model A-00 Mandolin. Gibson only made these for a couple of years, so they are a bit rare. This has the classic carved spruce top for the typical Gibson sound, not the laminated top like the younger models.
Please see the video at the top of the listing, if you haven't already.
The tuners are the original Pat, Pending Waverly open backs, that have been restored to a "like new" condition, so it stays in tune very well. These are not painted, they have a bead blasted brass finish on them.
The strings are brand new flat wounds that were the more expensive brand. (I Can't remember the brand at the moment, maybe Thomastik?)
The mandolin has the typical checking on the top back and sides that make it look, and sound, so vintage. The neck is as straight as an arrow, and also has a working truss rod for easy setup if ever needed.
The action is low, and can even go lower with no buzzing all the way up the neck. I don't think this mandolin has been played much over the years because the frets are in great shape with very little ware. It also has it's original pick-guard, which is in good shape.
The finish is pretty good and shines up real well. There is a crack in the finish on the back that didn't show up in the pictures, but I believe it is just in the top layer and not through the wood. It doesn't separate when I press on it, and I don't see a crack on the inside part of the back.
As you heard in the video, this mandolin has that classic Bluegrass tone that we all cherish so well.
I was playing this mandolin into a Tascam 8 track digital recorder with a guitar and bass track in the background. This was done quickly, but it is nice to be able to let you see and hear it.
I have a very reasonable buy it now price on this, so don't wait until the end of the auction when the bidding may go higher, and get Free shipping and case..
With the economy the way it is, lower prices have been killing us, so this is the best time to INVEST. I enjoy playing this mandolin because the action is so nice. If you are just learning, this is the one to play. There is no string buzz all the way up the neck, and there is still room to lower the action more.
Please, if you have less than two feedbacks, or negative feedbacks, email me first before you bid. I want your business, but I want to make sure that everyone is on the same page.
I have a case for this that may be the original, or maybe from the period. It is a sturdy, square case with the vintage clasps and lock. It could use a bit more padding, which can be done very easily.
@ I will ship it for free, and with the case, if you use the "Buy It Now". @
If not, than the case can be purchased at a reasonable price.
The "Buy it Now" price is very reasonable. You can't buy vintage Gibson mandolins for under a grand too often these days. Most A models are closer to two grand in this shape.

The other mandolin in one of the pictures is of a Slingerland mandolin. It is a close copy of a Gibson.
