This is a very nice 1941 Philco 41-280X Floor Model Wood Console Tube Radio I just got done restoring cosmetically. In 1941 Philco decided to add this photofinish you see on each side of the grill to their wood radios. It's unique to Philco and unique to the early 1940's. The upper front slanted slide rule dial cover is perfect and the dial light glows bright when plugged in (see pic 2). The 4 knobs are original to this unit and I replaced the 8 pushbuttons. They used a material in the ingredients on the pushbuttons in the 40's that deteriorates so it is typical to have to replace these. The lower grille with vertical bars is perfect and the original grill cloth is behind it and intact. The 8 tubes light up when it's plugged in. The speaker is intact and original and the box antenna is also intact and original. The cabinet sits on stacked feet and this stacking continues in the beautiful movement of this cabinet. The cord is taped at the chassis (see pic) but I plugged it in quickly to see if it fired up. Dial light, tubes light up but as far as sound, only got buzzing. There are two places that have paint specs (see pics) barely visible.
I've shipped two antique wood consoles previously and am extremely pleased with www.freightquote.com on the shipping/freight service. On this page go to shipping details and choose from drop down menu commercial (with loading dock), they do not do residential delivery. You can have the package delivered to any local BUSINESS address with a loading dock, so if you know someone who owns a business with a loading dock or get freight at your business use that address. I'll package and drop at neighbor's business. It's the cheapest way to move these and trust me, I've done my homework.
My husband and I will be building a crate to ship this unit with top and bottom and 4 corners made of 1x4x8's, Covered front controls, grille area and rear chassis with cardboard, packing paper in and around chassis, then a complete bubble wrap of all of that, styrofoam sheeting on all sides top and bottom and a final wrap in cardboard. Stapled and taped. See feedback, previous console customers have been pleased with the radios they purchased and the transaction. These are too expensive and beautiful to chance damage in transport.

On Nov-05-09 at 05:38:46 PST, seller added the following information: I noticed that I did not indicate if the dial needle was intact and working. I plugged it in last night and it is getting juice and has a nice hum, especially when you turn the Bass knob. The original needle is indeed intact, however the dial string is broken. All parts are present, I will put a piece of tape on the dial needle just so it doesn't come off of the string. I have a CD with antique radio stringing diagrams and if this one is included I will be able to forward via e-mail to the winning bidder for restringing of the dial needle.
