Lovely vintage 1950's black silk
peau de soie cocktail party dress with illusion details.
The fabric is smooth and has
a soft lustre - it's not a super shiny satin.
The sleeves are short and the
neckline is squared, with notches in the corners, filled in with taupe
inserts, creating the illusion of just a bit more skin.
Vertical darts start at each
breast, then taper in at the waist, which is cinched with a long matching
cord belt.
The skirt is full, slightly more
voluminous than an a-line.
This closes up the back with
a metal zipper. It is not lined, but it has hand finished seams and
loops to hold the wearer's bra straps in place. It also has two long
cords on the inside corners of the neckline - I have no idea what they're
for!
