Banana, beach cruiser, Sting Ray bike, bike restorers, builders and enthusiasts everywhere!!! We are offering a spectacular vintage gold heavy metal flaked banana seat. This seat was rescued from an auction and it wasn't pretty, but I knew there was a very cool seat under the years of grime. Spent about an hour cleaning it and I was very happy. The gold metal flake reflects a lot of light and really pops.
I don't know what brand of bike this came from, but giving that I was a Schwinn Sting Ray ridin' kid in the 60's I am confident this seat may be from a 1960's era Schwinn or Huffy, but I am not a bike expert.
The over all condition of the seat itself is very good, I would say excellent, but there is a 1 inch rip as shown in the photo. This does not show up clearly on a side view of the seat and it could be easily repaired. There is 1/4 inch shallow tear below the left side sissy bar mounting hole that could use a dab of glue and will not show when sissy bar is in place. The seat pan shows a little oxidation, which would be fixed with a dose of metal polish and rubbing. Bad part is the mounting support bracket has been broken off as shown in photo, but if you are in to restoring or building bikes this should be an easy fix. The seat cushion material feels like new and the seat covering material is pliable and not dried out. Length of seat is 18 3/4 inches and width is 5 and 1/4 inches.
This great seat deserves a good home, which is the main reason I rescued it. It would look great as a display piece on your wall or better yet on your bike, which is where it belongs!!!
