This is an interesting old trumpet made by C.G. Conn of Elkhart IN, circa 1928. (ser. #260XXX) It is a Bb model and has a .458" bore. (also referred to by Conn as a #1-1/2 bore) All parts are original (except waterkey springs, corks and felts) and, according to our resident trumpet pro, "it plays great!" We have ultrasonically cleaned and flushed this horn so it is ready to go. This is for the trumpet only. There is no case nor mouthpiece.
Some of the features of this trumpet include:
- Mother of Pearl inlaid bottom valve caps
- slides and valves work well and show no signs of excessive wear.
- No model number is stamped on it. This was common for pre-1930 models. It appears to be a 2B model based on photographic comparison with other 2B models I have seen.
- Some of the original silver plating has worn off as shown in photos. Most of the wear is on the mouthpipe and bell crook. Inside of the 4-5/8" diameter bell is gold washed. There is some pitting on the upper, outer main tuning slide tube and the bell crook.
- Pistons are all stamped with the matching last four digits of the serial number. Valve stems are also stamped w/matching serial numbers. I believe this was one of the very first models to use the modern day valve guide style.
- Slide stops on main tuning slip as well as on the1st and 3rd slides.
- 1st slide thumb saddle
- Trumpet is dent free and shows no signs of having any major trauma. There is a crease line visable on the inside of the bell from an previous expert repair.
